Foxton Queries Union's Right To Cnp In a letter to the Horowhenua Rugby Union's management committee meeting last night, the Foxton Club, till recently one of the union's teams but now in the Manawatu, questioned the right of the union to retain possession of the -RamsbQttom Cup — the senior Rugby tr-ophy. Reviewing the history of thg cup, the ohairman, Mr, A. Gillgspi'e, said that jt wa§ originally won outright by the Foxton Club and re-present-ed to the union by the club jn 1945 for perpetual competition in the senior competition. The cup was won by Foxton from Wanderers last year, and returned to the union this season. Nqw the Foxton Club was questioning the right of the persons who re-presented the cup in 1945 to do so, and a'sked that it be returned to the club until the present cqmmittee had gone into the matter. -In its letter the club stated that the e.up had been handed back to the union by a "certain Foxton resident," and claimed that this was - "out of order." The committee which had decided the matter had "not had a quorum, and the motion in regard to the cup had never been confirmed by a full committee, continued the letter. The cup could only -be given away by a full eommittee, and the club asked that it. be returned immediately so that the position could be put before a special general meeting Qf the club, Commenting, Mr. Gillespie said that the cup had been accepted by him on the union's behalf under the usual conditlon, that it become the union's propgrty until it ceased tq function as a body and then only could it be handed back to the Club, „
. After discussion it was decided' that the rgcords concerning the cup would be placed before the committee and further inquiries made and discussed at the" next meeting of the committee. It was 'decidgd. that no action be taken, meanwhile, in regard to the return ;Qf the cup as reque'sted, and the lclub would be notifled to that effect. I The- Department of Maori Affairs • wrote stating that the Maori Advisory Board invited nominations of Maori players in the union for the Maori representative team to tour Fiji. It was decided that this be referred to the selectors. i The Railways Rugby Union, Southern District- (N.I.), wrote stat- " ing that .games woqld shortly be held in the district to- seleet teams ,for.- representative games, and I asked forr the use qf Rugby Park on ■June 24 or '27. It was agreed that they should have the ground on a day suitable to them. A letter from the Department of. Agriculture stated that the Wellington Council of the Young Earmers' -Clubs was arranging for the playing - off in the di'strict of a seven=a-s}de tourney for Wednesday, July 21, and sought the use of Rugby Park. This was agreed to. The Paraparaumu and Otaki schools wrote thanking the union jfor the donation of two footballs to ! each school, for which they were ,very grateful. The Wellington Rugby Union wrote agreeing to send a B team on September 25. Wairarapa wrote seeking a game on August 14, with a return game at a later date. It was decided to send a B grade team to the Wairarapa. The following regradings from third to fourth grade, were allowed: On request from the College, D. BSmith, J. G. Norton and M. K. Bryant, On request from Shannon, J. Hermansen, G. Clough and R. Vinsen.
