G.N. Steeples To Brookby Song
With the Great Northern Steeplechase as the highlight of the second day of the Auckland meeting, there was a big attendance at Ellerslie yesterday, and the race was won by Brookby Song, from i'o'wn Survey and Abbey juu. J. Chaplin rode the winner, and Brookby song, under the steadier of 12 stone he carried, was in front for mostiof the long joui'ney. Returning to scale he received the oYation he richly deserved. This lead he increaaed and third time over the hill he was ten Iengths clear of Sir Waimai with four Iengths to Abbey Lu, well clear of Town Survey and Good xYnnour. There was little change in the distanees as they negotiated the stone-wall and Brookby Song, jumpiug brilliantly, never iookod like being beaten.
