ENGLISH TEAM FOR FIRST TEST
LONEON, June 6. England's team for ..the Jirst.Test^ut Nottingluun, beghming on Thursday, will be chosen from the following 12: Yardley (captaiu), Edrich, Barnett, Hardstaff, Hutton, Washbrook, Compton, Wright, Kvans, Bedsei'j J. Young and Laker. The 12th man is R. Simpson. Reuter 's ericket correspondent savs Laker is the only surprise in the team. The seleetors, before deciding ivho shall i>e ieft out, will eonsider the weather 011 the morning of the matcli. Laker will be given a place if the piteh looks favourable to spin bowlers, as only spinners liave sofar met with any success against the Australians. The correspondent adds that, if the Euglish players shed the inferiority complex which has stricken most of the countv teams, ihere should be a close hght and a possible victory for Englaud. Wright developed lunibago during the Test trial last week and is receiving attention from a specialist. The selection committee will liave a report • on his condition tomorrow. The selection committee co-opted Yardley as a member.
