P. and T. Dept. Wants 400 New Motor Vehicles
AUCKLAND, June 4. Three days before the Alinister ot Finance (Air. Xash) announced in Auckland that no more iruport licences for motor-cars would be issued for the eurrent vear the Post and Telegrapti Department requested a metropolitan motor firm to quote for the supply ot 150 cars as well as 250 truck chassis. It was specified that these stores were to be supplied from Newr Zealana stocks or to be produced in New Zealand. The quotation was requested on a standard Post. and Telegraph Department form and it was stated that the vehicles should be delivered or provided free on rail or free on board at their place of assembly. The quotation was to b.e- f orwarded to reach the Director-General (Stores Division) -,pf the Department by noon on June 21. There was a note to say that a quotation for the supply of motor vehicles on indent would be considered. The Department 's requirements under this particular order ineluded 8U motor-cars of up to 12 horse power and 70 motor-cars of over 12 horse power. The heavier vehicles that were also sought comprised 150 10-20 cwt. chassis, 50 40-50 cwt. chassis and 50 6U cwt. chassis. Eaeh class was to be fitted wifh standard steel cabs.-
