Levin Native Flora Club's Activities

At the last meeting of the Levin N.^YO FlQ^ayi,ph^, ^rrangenients were iinalisea for a lantern aecture by Dr. H. H. Allan, director of the Botany Division of the Piant Research Bureau, Wellington. Dr. Allan is to describe some West Australian plants. The lecture v;ill be at 8 p.m. in the Oddfellows' Hall on June 26. In order to avoid the necessity for holding the usual monthly meeting on the preceding Thursday, it was decided that the club's business should be discussed from 7.30 p.m., before* the lecture. iTh® outing for June has been i arranged to poincide with Dr. Ailan's visit. Mr. A. D. Chapman, acting-headma-ster of the Levin Primary F -hool. has invited the members of the club to attend Arbor Day ,observance at the school on June 14, commencing at 1.15 p.m. Mr. Chapman described plans for the future development and planting of | the school native plot. The club members were interested in seeing and discussing a ' number of fresh botanical speci- , mens. "br.qught to the meeting by Mrs. ' '.Travers, 4 from v Westhaven Inlet' v sd'utl^ Farewell" Spit^ | Another matter of interest was examining a collection of 100 press'ed and annotated specimens, the jtyork of Master Warren Travers. These showed considerable care In : mounting and observation in col- ' lecting, and were very creditable.

A collection of Mr. W. Nockels' I photographs was also seen. The | club is now in its eighth year, and iwith the exception of some time 1 when he was overseas, Mr. Nockels • has recorded the club's activities jwith photographs, both personal land botanical. These now form a ' permanent memento of events,, some of which are now almost forgotten, and they recall happy times, both early and recent, in the history of the club.
