NP - . "i, Received Thursdav, 12.6 a.m. CANBEEEA, June 2. Large seale blackmarketing involv- | ing valuable drugs and food, is conducted by Australian crews of mercliant ships visiting Japan. This was disclosed in a report presented to Parliament by Major-General C. E. Lloyd and Mr. Massey Stanley, a journalist, who were appointed by the Governrnent, together with three ChaplainsGeueral, to investigate charges of blackmarketing and immbrality ainong B.C.O.F. troops in Japan. Tlie report clears the troops af charges of lilack- - AtHvkefing ,and adds that immorality -is no worse than in anv other body of young men. Extraets from security reports given to the investigating mission show that ::ot onlv are Australian merchant seamen feeding the Japanese blackmarket but they also trade Japanese goods on • tlie Australian blackmarket. The maih itenis brought to .Tapan are sugar, saccharine, soap, chocolate, elothing, cigarettes and drugs. Penieillin is brought to Japan in large quantities. Japanese goods brought to Australia include croeltery, silk, pearls and gut fishing lines.
