Though there were one or two uselul gallops at Awapuni yesterday, the highlights of the morning 's programme were provided "by the jumpers, particularly those who were schooled over the hurdles. The conditions were most unpleasant following heavy rain just before dawn. There was more rain later and the going was sloppy. One of the flrst to jump was Theiolyn (A. G. Waddell). He juinped carefulL but very well in a seliooLover six fliglit> of hurdles. Next were Specialist (Waddell) and Glen Urquhart (F. Buchanan). They, t oo, jumped six hurdles and Specialist. on the outer, gave the better display. The going was bad and Glen Urquhart twisted as he took the hurdle but mado a elever landiug. Later Gay Flame (D. Collins) and Baksoon (Waddell) were sent over the hurdles. They flew the flrst but Baksoon, in the bad gojng, misjudged the second and fell. Gay Flame went on but canuto grief at the next fence. Collins madv a quick recoveiw from the fall and ht remounted Gay Flame and went on to CQinplete the course. Gay Flame jumped brilliantly. Then Waddell remounted Baksoon and went baclc to maki' auother start and Baksoon jumped splendidly over five more hurdles. Gaiety (Buchanan) went out to takeon the'ixig fences on the course proper, giving a fine display of jumping. The fast worlt took , place on itln I'onrse proper and the fiags were wide out. Among the horses out being exer cised was Sea Furv, which has rejoined ihe aetive brigade after a sliort let up One of the best gallops over a milo was that of Tremello (K. Ohristiansen 1 Co rona ra (V. J. Sellars.) and Winniis: Ticket (G. R. Tattersall ). They main tained an even pace throughout anwere liome smoothly to complete in two .ninutes.
Balagmcre (Sellars) and Gratuit;(Tattersall) sprinted three nicely u. 13 which was not bad.. Newel Post (W. J. Broughton) and fvippo (L. .T. Clutterbuck) ran tliei j miie in 2.2 3-5 and were going kindM at the fluish. Blank Cheque (J. Harris), looking t be none the worse for his winning eli'ori ;t Levin, again workcd well, being timed to xun half a milc in 58, the last three in 42 -4-5. Messalliance (D. Amey) worked ov-" a mile with the pace increased a shadc for him to run the last six in 1 28, and tlie last three in 43 3-5. Trafalgar Dav (Tattersall) was unde" restraint over a mile and Field Mar shall (W. L. Aitken) was timed honn from the six in 1- 34.
