CONBERRA, Jnne 1. Following the referenduni defeat, the Prime Minister, Mr. Chiflev, announced that the Federal Cabinet had decided to relinquish eontrol of rents within two nionths, price fixing within three months and land sale eontrol within tliree months. The State Governments wouid be invited to set up machinery for assuming these controls. Commonwealtli (fovernment stalfs would give all possibie adniinistrative assistance. Commenting foi» the lirst time on the referenduni, before a nieeting of Cabinet, Mr. Chiflev said: ?"I have no complaints. 1 think it was an unwise decision from the point of view of the maintenanee of economic stability. A verv simple question was subuiitted to ihe people who liave given a most decisive answer. " A Cabinet sub-eommittee would be set up to consider subsidies paid by tlie Conimonwealth for various commodities. During tlie referenduni campaign Mr. Chiflev said it would not be reasonable to expect the Commonwealtli Government to eontinuc to pav price subsidies on goods and eommodities wliile having no right to cheek prices to be paid by consumers. t The majoritv for No in the referenduni has increased to 669, Sll.
