A former shipping clerk who was allegecl to have posed as an Australian shipping magnate and to have opened negotiations with the Matson Line to huy the liner Matsonia for 3,500,000 dollars, was arrested in a waterxront har today and charged. with passing 120,000 dollars worth Qf had cheques in two weeks. The police identified him as Micffael (The .Pltmger) Kerrigan, aged 63. They said he grrived in San Prancisco a fortnight aga and slapped down a 1 13,000 -dollar eheque to charter a vessel from a - coastwise steamship company for ' 'a, . woodpnlp shipment from Canada to San 4-Prancisco." Using. the shipping company as a reference, he outfitted himself in luxurious clothing at one of the. city's 'Smartest shops. The police sajd he then opened p.egptiatiqns with the Matson Line'. He was wined, dihed, provided with a chauffeur and car, and installed in a finq hotel. He passed a 5000-dollar chequq to outfit and bejewel a woman friend, He tipped heavily with. cheques iq night cluhs. The police said that when the cheques began to rdturn marked "no funds," Kerrigan disappeared until he was arrested today,
