INUNDATED IN 45 MINUTES.

The United Press says the entire city was inundated in 45 niinutes and the water levelled off to an average depth of 15 feet. What was once a well-planned eommunity is now practically obliterated and the line of survivors from Vanport's population of 18,700 stretched for miles along the main highway between Portland and Vancouver, heading for safety. Xational Guard officers have reported that a number of bodies has been sighted under the debris along the Pouti and-Vaneouver highway, but that workers were unable to reach them. Looting was reported in Vanport at nightfall and additional police were called in. The United States Ooastguard is sending a helicopter to the Portland area to assist in the rescue and flood control operations. Tlie helicopter is eqnipped with a spepial winch to enable it to rescue stranded flood vietims from the air.
