Good Racing At Levin Meeting
Exeept for one or two showers the weather was not bad for the winter meeting of the Levin Racing Club and there was a very satisfactory attendance. The racing was good and the totalisator turnover was £56,320 10s, compared with £51,218 last year, the 'increase being £5102. The going was dead and cutting out, and the times were slow. •
Good Win by Pirst Act Pirst Act won the hurdles after being oue of the leading division all the "way. Tudor Chief led early from Landfall and St. Hilton, and Ganges followed them over the" second fence which was knocked flat. Six furlongs from home Landfall, Ganges and Pirst Act led from St. Hilton, fideen and Prefa. At the half-mile Sergeant Jack and Kelmont moved up fast and Ganges, Sergeant Jack, St. Hilton and Kelmont was the order as they rau to the last fence, which was flat, and once over it Pirst Act went on ro win nicely by two lengths. Sergeant Jack was second a length in front of Koyal Victor which just got up to beat Ganges. Next were St. Hilton, Pairhome, Tideen and Kelmont. Sir Koyal and Sunshine Bay The Apprenlices ' flack Kace was run in divisions which were won by Sii itoyal and Sunshine Bay. Sir Koyal, ridden by the apprentice, P. Mills, who was having his iirst ride in a race, led the lirst division into the straight and Poxtonian, which had to malce up a lot of ground, was in second place aliead of lligh Tension and Nullah. Sir Koyai went ou to win by iive lengths from Poxtonian, three lengths in front of Xullah. Xext were Ubbriaco and High Tension. In the second division Xoble Knight led to the straight closely attended by Sunshine Bay, Gay Joy, Adair and Generai Gift, and Sunshine Bay, after hcadiug Xoble Knight, was alvvays under a hard ride and he beat Xoble Knight by oulv half a length. Bouquet was a leugth and a half away third aud Gay Joy, followed by Adair, was fourth. Blue Skimmers Won Decisively There were seveuteen starters in the .Juvenile Handicap and the winner was Blue Skimmers which was iirst out and in front all the way. Tanjeen, Kobin Tor and Dunkrevin were away well and the order into the straight was Blue Skiinniers from JDunkrevin, Kobin Tor, vSonia, Itival Star and Tanjeen. Blue Skimmers did not leave it in doubt and shc won by over three lengths from Atoll which came home well to beat; Kobin Tor by over a length. Maricrana was fourth followed by Sonia aud Xiglit Valour. One for High Order lligh Order was favourite for the President 's llandicap and, following a great start, W. J. Brougliton took High Order to the front to lead out of the straight from Sparkliiig Lady, Lord Theio and Yaiulra, Hormuz, Second Seal, Precedency, Ballinagh, Sheilwyii and Langue d'or. There was inud flv] iiig in all directions as the field took the tuni and Morotai and Sheilwvn stopped a good deal of it. High Order still had cliarge at the four and" the lield was well strung out. Solo Park was fourth followed by Matapan, Oenio, Light Tea and Pollux. Light Tea's jockey lost an irpn iirst time over the double. Vernon was ridden by the Irisli steeplechase jockey, T. GoflF, who receutly arrived in Xew Zealand. Easy for Blank Cheque Sixtli out from the barrier, Blank Cheque niade a fast run as the field
raced to thet straight, and then won as he liked by two lengths from Currency Lass, which ' eame home 'well to beat Bi'oiealiee by over two lengths. Battle Spear, the leader early froin Broiealice, Jet Plane, Huntopay, Currency Lass and Blank Cheque, was a neck. away fourth, and Huntopay and Roscarea were next. JMiss Trivalve, Mana-wanui, Utopia and The Kip were slow away. Another Win for Garry Garry won the open sprint and paid a good Mouble-figure dividendU Trench Meter and Zealander were slow to leave the mark and the early leaders were Gay Corrie, Pull of Pun and Battle Survey from Garry, Deprive and Reorapa. Shiraz jumped away with the others but soon drifted. Pull of Pun, Garry and Gay 'Corrie led into the straight and Garry soon settled the issue, going away smoothly to win by two lengths from Deprive with Bonnie Pair over two lengths away third. Pull of Pun was' fourth followed by Zealander, Gay Corrie: and Trench Meter. Locbwinnoch and Bon Chale The Farewell Hack Handicap, run in divisions, was won by Lochwkinoch and Bon Chale, and Bon Chale, after being left on the mark at Poxton, paid a reallv good dividend. Lochwinnoch led into the straight in the iirst division attended by Xight Koyal, L'ord Bradbury, Winning Ticket, Koyal Moutoa, Mido and Xighthena, and Lochwinnoch',, Xight Royal and Lord Bradbury . fought out the finish, the margins-- being. a neck and a head. Palissy was fourth; Bon Chale had charge from Ineision, Horouta and Preezing Point when the second division turned into the straight and Bon Chale won by half a length from Horouta which iinislied strongly.
