Old City Surrenders
LONDON, May 28. The Jewish quarier of the Old Citj of Jerusalem has surrendered, according to an ofiicial announcement in Amman. The surrender followed a heavy Arah homhardment. The Jewish defenders had apparently nearly exhausted their ammunition and supplies. ^ Under the surrender ternis, women and children, estimated to number 300, and old men will he turned over to the International Red. Cross. The younger men will he placed in a concentration camp "outside Palestine." The Jewish negotiators said their people niunbered hetween 1500 and 1600, many of whom were dead or woimded. The Arab Legion communique an-nouiK-ing the surrendel" of the Jewish defenders in the Old City of Jerusalem, said: "After tlie 11-dav battje, the wliite ftag was raised todav 011 the last Zionist strongpoint within the Old City and all Jews in this quarter made their Hurrender to the Arab Legion."
