Stand Against Building Without Permit
A definite stand is to be taken against residents who efect buildings in the borough without having first obtained the necessary permit. This was decided at the May meeting of the Otaki Borough Council after discussion of a report by the building inspector, Mr. W. J. Guinan, on seven cases where buildings had been erected in the borough without a permit. Qne of those concerned is to be instructed to dismantle the building, while court action is likely to be taken against others. The Mayor, Mr. C. F. Atmore, drew the, council's attention to the need for the enforcement of the by-laws in order to ensure that all buildings erected complied with the standard required. Too rnany people had been "getting away" with building work without obtaining a permit, he said, and a number of them were well below standard. Every effort shoul'd oe made to see that the type of building erected complied with the '(bylaws and was a credit to the borough.
