ISRAEL APPEALS TO U.N.
Received Mondav, 7 p.m. XEW YORK, J\Iay 16. Israel's Foreign Heeretary, Aroshe Shertok, today appealed to the Security Council to halt intervention by Egvpt in the Iloly Land. In a telegram rclayed to tlie Council 's President, Alr. Alexandre 1'arodi, by the Xevv Yarn officials of the Jewish Agency, Alr. Shertok detailed acts of aggression which he said had been committed by the Egyptian forces. He urged immediate action by the Council to check and prevent tliis opou aggression by a menilier ot I nited Xations, carried on by its regular forces." ihe acts listed in the telegram mcluded air raids on Tel Aviv and Xirim settlement in Xcgev by planes with Egyptian Air Force markings and the shelling of Xirim bv an Egyptian army mechanised colnmn. Ihe telegram adds: . "I.arge concentrations of Egyptian regular troops are reported from (taza and movements of Egyptian mechanised eolumns have been observcd in other parts of Southern Palestine." Alr. Eliahu Epstein, envoy to the Fnited States from Israei 's Provisional Government, said in an interview today, that the original operation against Arab Jaffa was never approved by the Jewish Agency. He added that in future Israei would have 1 1 no designs on parts of Palestine out «ide our own State lioundaries. "
