Levin W.C.T.U. Meets
The Levin Women's Christian Temperance Union held its month - ily meeting recently. Mrs. Ken--nerlqy presided and Mrs. Kings led the devotional period. The Do.minion seqretary's annuai report wqs reu'd by Mrs. Burnham. It was decided to have a saies table at each meeting. It was decided to send letters of greeting to sevqral sick members and frienos. Band of Hope meetings are now being held on alternate Mondays in the Salvation Army Hall at 3.15 p.m., with Mrs. Muirhead as leader. Several members read articles of outstanding interest from the White Ribbon. The temperance fact, read by Mrs. Austin, was a statement by a Melbourne nerve specialist, Dr. J. F, McKe'ddie, who said: "Drink se-ems to grease the skids on every track that leads to perdition. It accelerates for example, tuberculosis. A man whose lung has been healed takqs to alcohol and soon comes back with the disease ten times more firm'ly established. Alcohol increases it and presently sends it surging upwards to the brain." The roll call for next meeting is to be- answered with a text containing the word joy. The hostesses, Mesdam.es Austin and Henskie, served afternoon tea. Prayer and the Benedictiqn qrought to a close an interestina- meetine.
