Produce Brings Good Prices At Wellington

Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Lta., fruit an'd produce merchants, Wellington, report that "during the week the demand for vegetables has been far in excess of supplies, most lines realising ceiling prices. The demand also for cauliflower, rhubarb and spinach is particularly good, values for which have reached 35/- a sack with spinach up .to 40/- a case. Accordingly, consignments of all vegetables are strongly recommen'ded. There is a particularly keen demand for choice tomatoes and passionfruit, while all citrus fruits are realising top prices. In the flower sectioh, there has been a keen demand for choice carnations, Otaki Pinks ralising up to 30/- per dozen bunches. Smailer yardings of poultry have resulted in a slight increase in prices.' Quotations for the past week are as follows:— - Fruit: Tree tomatoes, 6/- to 10/-; passionfruit, 18/- to 24/-, Chinese gooseberries, 12/- to 22/6; feijoas, 5/- to 8/-; persimons, 6/to 8/6; cape gooseberries, 6/- to 8/-; choice tomatoes, per half case, 10/- to 26/-; quinces, 5/- to 10/case; all citrus fruits, ceiling prices. Vegetables: Beetroot, 5/- to 7/-, cauliflower, 25/- to 35/-; pumpkins, 3/- to 9/- per sack; best beans, 1/- to 1/8; peas, 1/- to 1/7; celery, 8/- to 16/-; sweet corn, 8/- to 14/-; eucumber, 10/- to 18/-; leeks, 20/'to 30/-; spinach, 24/- to 40/-; rhubarb, 15/- to 26/-; silverheet, 3/- to 9/-; lettuce, 20/- 'to 30/-, marrows, 6/- to 14/- per case; cabbage, carrots, parsnips and swedes, at ceiling prices; kumeras, 16/- to 30/- a cwt.; Chinese cabbage, 6d and 8d a head.
