NATIONAL JERSEY FEMALE SHOW AND SALE

Record Entries and Some Good Prices Bidding at the second Manawata national Jersey female show and sale at Palmerston North yesterday reflected the extreme shortage of winter feed. The yearlings showed evidence of the recent drought and buyers were not enthusiastie. Despite these circumstancea the sale exceeded expectatioxxs and some good prices were attainod. The market was quite steady but weaner heifcrs were lacking in sizo and pondition and accounted for most of the pttssings in. Top price at the sale was fetehed by the champxon cow, owned by Mr. M. I. Hughes (Mangatainoka; and sold to Mr. It. O. Gloyn (Carnarvon) for 180 guineas. The fixture, which was the largest of its kind ever held in the Hominion, attracted buyers from many parts of the North Islauu and f roin Blenheim. A yarding of over 160 cattle eomprised 64 two-year pedigree Jersey heifers, 41 yearling Jersey heifers and 71 pedigree Jersey cows.
