Waikato

Master Meruit's brilliant schooling at Te Rapa earlier in the week has established him a firm first choice for the Waikato Steeplechase, but he has a tough task in front of him with such good northern 'chasers as Brookby Song, Hunting Dink, Bright Fox and Merriful opposing him. In fact, some northerners are prepared to see him being "downed" by Hunting Dink, Merriful or Bright Fox. With the going heavier than last week Valley Boy will be a good prospect in the President's Handicap. The extra furlong will suit the consistent Sylis, while others not without good prospects are Conspiracy, Leigh Hark and Bedivere. The open sprint, the Stewards' Handicap, will suit such good mudlarks as Master Ted, Brockton, Tiger Tan, Gwen Vaals, General Menteith and Kia Ora Kaitoa. Tne likely three to fight out the issue are Master Ted, Brockton and Tiger Tan. Likely Prospects Are: Melville Hack and Hunter'S' Steeplechase (24 miles) — Shepherd's Ace, Whirlwind Star, Sir WAimai. Otorohanga Hack (7 furlongs) — Bouquet, Dominie, Sunny's Last. Seddon Hurdles (lf miles, 55 yds.) — Foxstar, Ernada, Diamond King. President's Handicap (11 furaShgs) — Valley Boy, Sylis, Conspiracy. Waikato Steeplechase (3 miles) — Master Meruit, Hunting Dink, Bright Fox. City Hack Handicap (6 furlongs) — Driving Creek, Fencing, Bengal Bay. Stewards' Handicap (7 furlongs), — Master Ted, Brockton, Tiger Tan. Horotiu Hack Handicap (1 miie) — Beb, Prince Chat, Tifox.
