Big Electrical Storm Rages Over Gisborne

GISBORNE, May 13. One of the wildest electrical storms for years raged over Gisborne from midnight until nearly daylight. Vivrd lightning and terriffc thunderclaps were accompanied by a lashing south-easterly gale and terriffc rain. The storm reached its full fury at 3.30 a.m., and the velocity of ' the gusts continued between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Heavy seas were banldng up the Tauranganui River whieh is lapping the top of its banks. A total of 2.95 inches of rain fell between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. Flood warnings have been issuea to settlers on the flat.
