Egyptian Army Alerted As End Of Mandate Nears

Received Thursday, 10.50 a.m, LONDON, May 12. Following the Egyptian Government's decision to declare a state of seige throughout Egypt, all Egyptian army leave has been cancelled as from May 15. The Jewish leaders today reached an agreement on the proelamation of the Jewish state in Palestine immediately the British mandate ends.
A British official communique issuecl in Jerusalem today, announced that the British garrison in Jerusalem leaves for Haifa on May 14 ancl added that the mandate ends legally at midnight local tirne. The High Commissioner, Sir Alan Cunningham, leaves Haifa in Ihe cruiser Euryalus early on xVTay 15. The Arab city of Jaffa surrendered to the Hr.ganah following talks bctween the Arabs and Jewish leaders. The agreement provides ii,r the appointment of a Haganah miiitary commander, Jewish supervision of the Jaffa pori, a recognition by the Haganah of the Arab civil eommittee, and the establishnunt of a joint Jewish-Arab commiHce t> eontrol the food and essential services. An official Jewish somce .said that King Abdullah's Arab Legion launched an atiaek on i'our Jewish settlements in tlif Kt'uretziun area.
