Yesterday's Semi-finals At Awapuni
Following heavy rain on Mondav, the Awapuni grass tracks were in really good order when horses engaged at Otaki were given their semi-final gallops. However, the flags were wide out on the conrse proper and the fast work was not instructive. Chief interest was eentred in the jumper.s and probably rthe most iuteresting "school" was that of Baksoou (A. G. Waddell) and fileu Urquhart ,( K. Buchanan) over six fiights of hurdies. "With (tlen" I'rquhart 011 the inner setting the pace, they wasted little time and the only hlemish in a really good bout was at the fourtli liurdle, ' whicn Buksoon rapped. Among the best efforts on the flat were those of Sandy Ilarrison, Laiidiire and Playtos, but few horses appeareu to lie seriouslv against the watch. Sandy Harrison (G. R. Tattersall) worked over seven furlongs in 1.45 1-5 and he was home well in 41 1-5, vvhicii was good wide out on the course proper. ' . Landfire.,-( J. Harris) covered seven m 1.45 2-5 and was home in 42 3-5. Playtos (Harris) took 1.4(5 3-5" m a similar task and was home from tne tliree in 43 1-5.
