Manakau School's Jubile Thanks giving Service
The Manakau Hall was filled to capacity on Sunday when the thanksgivihg service" for the Manakau School's Diamond Jubilee was hel'd. The service opened with the singing of the National Anthem, after which Mr. A. M. Atkins introduced Canon H. E. K. Fry and the Revs. P. Temuera and R. Grice. Canon Fry tendered an apology on behalf of the Rev. Nicholas. Following the hymn, "All People That On Earth Do Dwell," Canon Fry read the text and Rev. Grice led in prayer. The Rev. Temuera delivered a most stirring and fitting address, making referehce to the fact that while those assembled were ce'lebrating and building a memoriai to the fpioneers of education, tne greatest memoriai of all time stood in their midst — the beautlful Rangiatea Maori Church. It was a tribute to the faith which the people of those -days stood for, a monument to peace and goodwili. "There is nothing like it anywhere else in tne world," continued Rev. Temuera, explaining the circumstances which brought abour the erection of the church after some of the most wild and turbulent times men and women were called upon to endure. "This is what we commemorate today," he said in conclusion. "Let us ever be reminded of the faith which caused those giant timbers to be placed where they are today — a true and lasting monument." 2Se then extended his sincere congratulations to the Manakau people on the celebration of their school jubilee. Two hymns, "O. God of Jacob," and "O Go-d Our Help," were sung, following which the congregation was led by the Otaki Band to the Cenotaph for the placing . of the wreaths. The roll of honour was read and the Last Post sounded.
