Received Wednesday, 10.10 a.m. « LONDON, May 11. A " pareel containing a highly dangerous explosive in a eylinder was deiivered at the home qf General Sir Evelyn Barker, former commander of the British troops ih Palestine, who lives at Cobham, Surrey. The parcel was posted in London and deiivered in the p6st. It was in box form and Lady Barker became suspicious because it was unusually heavy, and slie saw wires protruding from the - torn wrapping paper. The Surrey police called in Seotland Yard and Superintendent Thomas Barratt, who . had charge of the Farran bomb inquiries, and Sergbant George Baker, of the Speeial Branch, went to the house. The pareel was brought to London for examinatiorr by Home Office experts. The police said that tjie parcel was about one foot long and three inches in diameter and the postman left it on a ledge inside the norch of General Barker's house. A servant who came to collect the parcel became suspicious and put it in a room wherc it was. isolated Lady Barker did not handle the uarcel which was addressed to General Barker, who was not home. General Barker was placed 011 the Stern Gang deatR. list in 1946.
