Feature of the matoh in whichHui Mai soundly beat Otaki-Rahui. by 22 points to 3 at Manakau on saturday, was a 'brilliant penalty kick by H. Cook of Hui Mai, This eame during the dyihg stages oi the first spell and Hui Mai's account was already well filied. Hui Mai was awarded the penalty about five yards inside the haifway mark. It was seemihgly impossible to kick as it was placed some yards off centre, but Cook sent the ball over very neatly. The match was a prominent victory for Hui Mai after their loss to Athletic last week. Coming as a surprise to their opponents were the tactics used by .the forwards, WorKing as a team, they seldom lost control of the ball. The hookIng was superb and in this regard, McCashin was outstanding. Hui Mai's account was opened by G. Bryant who was fed by H. Natana and went over at the corner. Staples. missed the difflcuii kick— Hui Mai 3, Otaki-Rahui 0. From a clearing kick by Otaki, M. Staples took. the ball on the full and sent it down the line where' it was finally taken by the winger, a. Saunders, who collected neatly and scrambled over accompanied ' by . McCashin. Robinsori who sent it back down the line and followed through t(j collect at the other end and 'simply raced away while the Otaki backs stood by and watched. ' Cook collecr,ed on a difficult kick, — Hui Mai 14, Otaki 0. . ' For the first time dtiring the match, Otaki made an attack on their opponent's defences. They forced the Hui Mai forwards to open up and broke through to the back line. Hui u Mai's recovery however was efficient and well planned, Landers (Hui Mai) was penalised for being offside which gave Otaki an easy shot at the posts. « W. Taratoa missed the kick land the game continued. It was shortly after this that Cook kicked his spectacular goal. — Hui Mai 17, Otaki 0. During the second half, it became apparent that Otaki had had enough of the one-sided play. Although now playing uphill and facing the sun, their attacks were spirited and vigorous, but nqt entirely successful. Neil Gordon, R. Ramsbotham, T. Gray and J. Connor were prominent. Otaki was, awarded a penaltay underneath the. posts and T. Gray successfully opehed his team's account. — Huiv Mai 17, Otaki 3, Then Lloyd Robinson made an opening for Cook who once more took a blind run for the line a^nd dived over.
