Shannon School's Meeting Of Householders
The householders' meeting at the local school last Monday eveningwas attended by over 30 and presided over by Mr. F. J. Lucinsky, who apologised for the absence of the chairman of the school committee, Mr. A. E. Jeffrey, who had been called. away suddenly on account. of family illness. The secretary, Mr. L. J. Bowler, read the minutes and explained the flnancial statement in detail. The accounts were in a very sound posltion. The chairman read the report prepared by Mr. Jeffrey, who, in reviewing the period of office of the retiring committee,. referred, among other things, to the several, working bees held in order to maintain and improve the'grounds, the oiling of the class room floors and the painting of the swimming. baths. The school buildings have received attention in the way of. electrical improvements, erection of curtain rods, provision of curtains, laying of floor coverings and some re-furnishing. The school's physicaL education equipment had been built up and the hot water system put into working order. again. Drainage had been attended to, fences 'repaired and some expense . incurred in manuring the school flower gardens. The sincere thanks of the committee is extended to donors of plants and money.
Mr. Jeffrey also made reference to the successful school fair and thanks were given to all who hadcontributed to its success. The school dental clinie had also received attention. Painting and maintenance work had been carried out. In conclu'ding his report, the president made reference to the women members of the committee/ Mesdames C. Stern and W. Easton, who had proved valuable members and who had given their attention particularly to the interests of the girls. Mr. Jeffrey thanked the members of his committee for their' co-operation and the active interest m the affairs of the school and referred especially to the energetic and efficient secretary, Mr. L. J. Bowler Thanks were also extended to the headmaster, Mr. F. O Burtt and members of the teachmg* wlth whom it had a great pleasure to work.
