Jews Increase Their Hold In Galilee

Tn a survey of the Palestine position, The Times' Haifa corresjiomlent says ihe Jews are steadily inereasing their lioJd in fcjoutiiern and Kastern Galilee arfd hold the lmportant point of Saf-i-1 and the. neighbouring villages. They appear to have arranged an agreement in, North-eastern Palestine whereby *both Jews and Arabs are using the roads. Jews remain at work at Haifa's great oil relineries although Arabs stojiped work weeks ago. It is believed only the reserves have been relined recently because no oil has been liowin„ throngh the pipeline wliieh ends at Haifa. The British Anny lirmly eontrols all the entranees to Ilaifa and does nol allow armed Jews in the port ai;ea mu in the Kingswav area of Haifa's prineipal buildings. British .Marino eonimandos conlrol the road from Jerusalem to the Royal Air Fuive airport at Kalundia. Mr. John Ilood (Australia) critieised the eouneil's reeonnnendations as " di->-appointing, inadeijuate and far from meeting the urgent requirements wiiieh the situation deniands. "
