Plunket Society Holds Annual Meeting

In spite of the bitterly . cold weather, keen interest .was taken in the annual meeting of the Otaki Plunket Society, which was held, in the Anglican Hall, Otaki, last night. ,,, , The chairman was Mr. J. Kirkwood and he held office over a fair attendance of members. Apologies for absence were received from. the Mayor, Mr. C. F. Atmore, and others. ' ' Thanking Mr. • Kirkwood for accepting tlie chairmanship for the evening, the presldent, Mrs. W. Morton, welcomed the guest speaker for the. evening, Mr. C. Meachem, the secretary of the New Zealand Crippled ' .Children's Society. She took -the opportunity of thanking her committee and members for their zeal and cooperation in all matters relatiye. to the society throughout the year. She paid a compliment to; the work of the secretary, Mrs.: R.. T. • Mbrf tiboy, who, she said, havl contribu-t-? ed much to the welfare • of the society. During the year, the work of the sub-brarich had been carried on smoothly, and with' the coritinued generous support of the public the society was able .to say that lts financial year had been a very satisfactory one, read the annual report. The bazaar had netted the sum of £102 and the committee was most grateful to all who helped and contributed to this annual effort, which was the main source of income. The report expressed regret at the retiremnt of Miss Gilmer from active work on the committee. Miss Gihner had5 been- a" member of the society for 18 years and although her retirement was due to ill health, she still ret.ained. a keen interest in its affairs: In conclusion, sincere thanks • wereaccorded to the honorary auditor, Mr. H. L. Witchell, Wilson's Pharmacy, Mr. F. W. Rule and all who had helped in any wayat any time. • The work had progressed satisfactorily throughout the year, commented Nurse E. Potter in her annual . report. . Although there were increases in most. sections of the work, the pre-school attendance was still not good, and it was to be hoped that this year more mothers would appreciate the need for regular supervision of a Child of one and a-half to five years of age. Nurse Potter thanked the committee for their assistance and mothers for their . co-operation and hospitality throughout the year. The following is, the Statistical report for the year ended Deceffiber 31, 1947, as presentd by Nurse Potter: — New babies 59; visits to homes to babies 271; visits to Plunket Rooms: Adults* 594; " babies 565, ,p?:e-school children 59; mothers contacted in Nursing Home 163; transfers to Otaki 1; transfers from Otaki 2 ; number of babies under supervision 75; ndmber of pre-school children under supervision 37. The election of officers for the ensuing year then took place and resulted as follows: — Presi'dent": Mrs. W. Morton; vice-presidents: Mesdames H. Nicolson, D. Blake and M. Southcombe, Messrs. C. 3?*. Atmore, J. Kirkwood and W. Morton and Drs. G. Atmore and F. Neate; hon. secretary- treasurer: Mrs. R. T. Mortiboy; committee: Mesdames E. Edwards, S. H. Elliott, J. B. Hewitson, M. Holmes, C. Jacobs, G. M. Kirk, J. Kirkwood, L. Moss, E. Pothan, N. Radcliffe, D. G. Reid, B. H. Rhodes, R. K. Roiri, F. W. Rule, A. B. Saunders, E. Tooby C. Williams and P. Williams; delegates to coastal towns: Mesdames Morton and Mortiboy; hon auditor: Mr. H. L. Witchell. S upper was served and the meetmg closed with a vote of thanks to the chair_
