It was resolved that a quantity of - distilled tar should. be purchased to be used in connection with the . isanitary arrangements. Cr. L. G. Sayer to discuss the position with Mr. R. R. Lmd. Cr. V. J. Bateman, on behalf of the building committee reported that the following building permits were in order: — Mr. . E. J.Spencer, a dweiling to . the value of £1250; Mr. H. W. Sayer, a dweiling ,t.o the value of £1200; the removal and re-erection of- the Ven. Bede's ■ church to the value of. £400 ahd Mr. W. R. Clough,. alterations to the value of £50. An application received from Mr. D. Richards for permission to erect a fowl-house was granted aubject to the approval of the health inspector. Cr. Bateman also asked that attention be given to the domain buildings. Labour required for the work an'd metal for, the domain gateway was left in the hands of Cr. Sayer to arrange, while renovating of -the notice boards at- the domain were left to Cr. Bateman to deal with. Reporting on the activity of the wqrks committee, the chairman, Cr. L. G. Sayer, stated a fiame thrower had been tried pftt on the side of some of the streets and drains within the borough,' also the lawn mower attac£b,m;erit for the motor mower was to hand. Four rubbish containers were at present being made and would be placed in suitable positions arourid the town. He suggested that the State Highways be asked to cut back on a grade the Ballance Street area between Venn ana Vogel Streets. He stated that ne would arrange to have the rubbish tip placed in-. order and notices erected.,. r - In conclusion, it was resolved that a meeting of the finance committee be heid and a special meeting called to consider the year's estimates. Accounts amounting to £202 9s 2d; which included payment to the Palmerston North Hospital Board of £76 17s 4d, were passed for payment.
