Obituary
MR L. M. NGARO Mr. Luigi Michele Noaro, ! of Opiki, who was accidentally killed recently as a result of a collision with a train on the railway crossing at Makerua, was bovn in 1903 at Sandrigo, Nortnern Italy. He served his country digging trenches in' the 1914-18 war. He-decide'd to come to New Zealand and left Italy in 1924, settiing in Wellington for two years, where he earried on his trade as a plhsterer. Then he moved to Shannon, and after cutting flax for a short period leased a small piece of land for the purpose of growing onions. He ' eventually became the largest individual onion and p>otato grower in New Zealand. His example encouraged others to such an extent that from what was known as the Makerua swamp was developed the largest vegetable growing area in New Zealand. In the early stages Mr. Noaro was ably assisted by his two brothers, Messrs. Bruno and (Arturo Noaro, who came out to New Zea- | land in 1926 and entered into partnership with him. A few years later they purchased 160 ncres on Wilson Road. Th partnership was dissolved in 1939 when the late Mr. Noaro married the eldest daughter oi Mr. and Mrs. Barnao, of Wel- , lington. He is survived by his ' wile and a young son and daughter, his two brothers, who now have their own farms In Opiki, and his father, mother, -two brothers and one sister, who are still living in Italy. At the funeral in Palimerston North the pallbearers 1 were members of the Palmerston North Gun Club. Clay bird and game shooting provided his only recreatlon.
