Labour As Source Of All Wealth
DUNEDIN, May 3. Labour was the source of all wealth and if this was accepted as true, work* ers must accept responsibility for producing the goods and services needed by the people, said Mr. J. Roberts, prcsident of the New Zealand Labour Party, in his address to tbe annual conference this morning. The timo had arrived, he said, when represehtatives of the workers should be allowed to take pa"rt in the manageluent of industry and the time had afso arrived when orgapised workers should undertake responsibility for the production of goods and services for the people. ' ' I am of opinion that tlie great majority of workers will give their best co operation i'or increased production and improved services when they realise that, througli their work, higlier living standards can be obtained eitlier by increaSed incomes or the equitable distribution of the national wealth," he said. - What about employers ' prolits? he asked. They could safely be left to the Income Tax Department. It might be as well to realise that taxation, much as it was objected to, was probably the best way of distributing the national income more equitably among the whole of thc population..
