Napier Wool Sale
NAPIER, May 3. Prices comparing favourably with the January rates, were obtained when the first portion of the last catalogue of the season was presented -to a full bench of buyers at the Napier wool sale today. It was difficult to aeeount for the sharp advanee in certain elauses — recognised to be several penee dearer than March quotations— and is largely explained by the domination of the market by Continental buyers. Oue regular buyer gave the impression that priee was no deterrent in acquiring his. selections. French buyers were particularly active. ! The official report states there was keen c'ompetition for all fleece wool with the exeeption of woolly hoggets. Good to super lambs attraeted much competition but average types containing seed or burr, were somewhat erratic. Bellies sold at a premium. Compared with the Napier March sale, fleece wool showed a. distinct rise, this rise varying according to type. The report adds that the offering consisted mainlv of ewe wools with a fair proportion of lamb3. All sections of the trade -were represented. Bradford was operating but the Continent dominated the market.
