Caves Near Lake Te Anau After the report* of the' existence of a giow-worm and stalactite cave near Lake Te Anau, a diligent search has. been made for further caves in the district. The belief that the area is honeycombed with caves is proving no idle supposition. A hole ipspected led to an underground passage sprpe hundred of yards long, ■ although the entrance was only about two feet across. A Gollection of whitened bones was found in this cave. Their size suggests that they belonged to a moa, and they have been forwarded to Dunedin for an expert opinion. The location in a cave with so small an entrance opens up a field of conjecture. In the cave were also discovered a number of small stalactites. As it is stated that these form at the rate of one cubic inch every 400 years, the cave must have been in existence for a considerable period.
