A special joint committee has been arranged bv the Minister of Industries and Commerce and the Minister of Customs, to investigate a report 011 shortages in the inlport licensing requirements of- Wellington manufacturers for the rest of the 1948 period. This special committee. is to be set up by two departments concerned to deal witli specifie eases as soon as possible. Statiug this, the president of the Wellington Manufacturers' Associa--tion, Mr. D. W. Whyte, said a survey showed that manufacturers in the Wellington and provincial areas were more than q500,000 short in. their imporr licensing erequireinents for the rest 01 the 1948 period.
