Otaki Fire Board Holds Annual Meeting
All membcrs were preseiit at the annual- meeting of the Otaki Tfre Board, when Mr. H. B. Edhouse was elected chairman for the vear. The annual accounis and balance sheets were approved subject to audit. It was decrded to place the caretaker on a contract basis at the inofeas.ed sum of £40 per year. Also that the type of helmet to be procured be left to Mr. Russell to report on. Quarterly Meeting Prior to the commencement of the quarterly meeting; held in conjunction with the annual meeting, board lhembers inspected the brigade and the chairman presented the honours won, congr atula ting the recipitnts. 1 Accounts totalling £55 18s lld were presented by the secretary and passed for payment. The superintendent's report was received and approved. It was decided that a new radiator be fitted to the cngine in accordance with the expert's opimon, that the U F.B.A. in uranee benefit be taken up and participation applied for to supplcmtnt tne. compensation poiicy ; that the matler of procuring a carbo.nic extinguisher be loft in the hends of Ihe local committee with power to uurchase; and to pay i £5 towards the cost of a fireman's • damaged coat as compensation. Superintendent's Report The superintendent, Mr. C. Sharp, reported as follows: "Ten ! calls were received during the year, i and all wero? well attendecl. " Tlie ;average attendance at. fires was 14 men snd the average attendance at al musters, 33 in all, was 16 men. .Of the ten calls received. sevon were to grass fires, one to the Telegranh H.otel, one to an implement slied on Mr. Garlick's property. Jubilee Road, and a false alarm was also sounded. All fires were well handled excepting the outbreak at Mr. Garlick's propertv. —^tch was well out of hand bcfore the arrival of the brigade. The shed and contents on tnis occasion were a coml plete write off. : ."To say the least, the firemen view with some concern the false alai m that was sounded, and they feel that the culprit should bc clealt with accordingly. A clefect in the radiator of the engine has caused us some concern of late. I suggest that a furth'er quantity Gf hose be procured, as present stocks are showing signs o'f wear" due to a.quite tisy perlod over thc last few years.". •
