Rare Heart Operation
0 Received Wednesday, 10.5 p.m. MELBOURNE, April 21. A rare surgical operation on the heart has heen sucqessi'ully performed at the Heidelberg Repatriation hospital. The patient, Robert Shergold, aged 23, was suffering from a type ot pericarditis in which calcium forms roipd the heart. Without the operation he might have lived two years as a semi-invalid. During the war when Shergold was with the Navy in Japanese waters, he kept feeling a pain in the chest which- got worse. Finally it was diagnosed as. this, rare disease and an operation was performed hy a Melbourne surgeon^ The calcium was removed and the patient is progressing well.
