False Income Returns By Chinese Fruiterer
GORE, April 20. Finos totalling £ 1 00 were imposed on Willie Gee, a Chinese fruiterer, of Gore, by Mr. R. O. Abernetliv, S.M., iu the Magistrate's Court today, ou four churges of makiug false returns of income. Mr. .T. R. Mills, for tlie Commissioner of Taxes, said defendant 's income returns fqr the four years 1943-46 totalled £833, wliereas the Bepartnieht assessed his income at £4391. The total evasiou auiounled" to £361 incoiiie tax and £475 social security tax. All arrears had since been paid including the 10 per cent. penaltv. Defendant had not kept any books and the Departinent experienced great ditfieulty in assessing his income. Prior to this he had not liled any returns although he had been in business since 193L -. ; , Defendant pleaded guilty and was lined £40 ou each charge.
