Personal Mr. an'd Mrs. Rignold, of Christchurch, who have been on holiday iin Otaki, left for Tauranga today, but expeet to return in about three weeks' tim'e. At the last meeting of the Wellington Bowling Centre the president, Mr. W. F. Hadwin, made feeling reference to the passing of Messrs. S. Moffatt, secretary of the Raumati South Bowling Club; H. G. Harman and S. Muter, Hutt; F. J. Gooder, Paekakariki; and T. G. Parsons, Kelburn. As a mark of memory and respect those present stood in silence. In the passing of Mr. J. irjTelson, whose death occurr!'ed' recently, Papatawa and disitrict lost a man of kindly disposition, thoughtfulness for others and wide sphere of activities on organisations working for the welfare of the community. He followed farming and found time for local body and patriotic work. Mr. ; Nelson, who was the son of pioneer settlers, was born in Canterbury 75 years ago. He spent'his youth at Dunsandel and Waddington, and came to the North Island in 1902. Four years later he married Miss Louie Dickens, of Papatawa, and later lived" for two years at Cambridge before going south to Waimate. Later Mr. Nelson, with his wife, again came north and became a noted breeder of Herefords, scuring many show succsses. As a young man Mr. Nelson was a keen tennis player, a fine golfer and a well-known huntsman. He was a member of the Woodville Racing Club, the Woodville A. and P. Association and other local organisations, as well as president of the Papatawa Sports Club. Deceased is survived by his \yidow, two daughters, Mrs. Pearce Pay, of Auckland, and Mrs. Brinsiey Ryder, of Otaki, and by one sister, Miss E. J. Nelson, who lives at "Rosedale." Aid For Crippled Children The Paekakariki Bowling Club has raised £47 10s to assist the work of the Crippled Children-Society. Welcome Rainfall The rainfall in Otaki for the 43 hours up to 9 a.m. yesterday was 48 points. With that which fell during last night it will have a very beneficial effect on parched pastures and gardens.
