» WELLINGTON, April 19. „ For their very existence the churches of the world must unite in view of the growing eonsciousness of strengfti in their adversaries, said the Very Rev. Dr. JoKn Baillie, in a public address m St. John's Presbyteria'n Church tonight. The speaker, who is Professor of Divinity at Edinburgh University ana a former moderator of the Church of Scotland, is one of the leaders of the movement for a world union of all churches. The forces operating against the church to-day, said Mr. Baillie, were muc-h more eon, seious of their strength than they were 25 years ago. The church could not alford to be less united and vital than its opponents were for its health or future existence. At the Amsterdam Conference of tixe World Council of Christian Churches this year, all non-Roman Churches would be together. It was necessary, however, that in addition to all churches in every country having direet association wifh World Council of Churches, all ^&*rches should have close lateral contact with each other in 'tlieir ovra countries.
