Man Dies in Gaol
HAWERA, April 19. Placod in the'lock-up at ,|he Hawera Police Station 011 Saturdny night, a man arrested at the Public Hosxiital 011 a charge of being unlawfully on tvq premises was found at midnight to be in a conditipn other. than what he was lielieved earlier to be in as a result of intoxication. A doctor was called, but the man died before lie could be rem6ved by ambulance. He was Alr. Arthur Francis Alunton, aged 15, wliose last known address was Alercer. He is believed to have died as a reSult of drinking ether. :■ Alr. Alunton called at the liospitai at 8.30 o'clock with a request that he be admitted for the night, but as there was nothing warrant his entry as a patient he was turned awav. About 10 o'clock the night staff reported' a prowler about thhe premises^ and Alr. Alunton was found lying on the floor ot the laboratory. He./was takeli to -the police station and put in, a cell. It was ascertained today that a bottle of ether in the laboratory hau been opened, and some of the contents consumed by'the intfuder. : An inquest was opened this morning, ])Ut was adjourned after identification.
