Rahui Footballers Play Porirua
' Play.ed on the Otaki Domain ,on Saturday in' glorious weather, .the football- match ; between Rahui and Porirua juniofs was an interesting one, the visitors eventually winning a willing contest by 12 points to 3. ' Walker was the first to score, qrossing.the Porirua line, but Mudgway'p kick at goai did not add- the major points. Porirua added two tries before the closing of the spell, R. Windley being the scor.er. His brother f ailed to convert, Later a further try was scored by Windley, making the score 9 — 3 in favour of the visitors. Free kicks at goal by Rahui f ailed to produce points, while in the latter stages of the game Elkington scored, but Windley failed to convert. Mr. Copeland was referee for the first half and Mr. Mita Johnson for the second spell. Porirua and Otaki-Rahui seniors were evenly matched. Forward rushes were fr.equently indulged in, .while passing movements on "the whole were neat and well execfited. At times the ball came out from the ruck with lightning speed, ahd both sides made' the most of opportunities. * Tackling was above the average. ■ ' The visitors opened with the sun in their eyes, and went on attack. After a series of scrums, Otaki worked play to half-way, where J. Winterburn . suffered an injury which caused him to leave the field. FTom an early attack, W. Tar.atoa had an unsuccessful shot at goal for Otaki, after which : Porirua attacked and Carter had an unsuccessful kick at goal. . The attack was maintained and Carter, from another attempt, kicked a good goal. Otaki came away in a series of loose rushes, but Porirua, intercepting a pass, carried .the ball 50 yards upfield. From the attack Swainson went ' over for a smaft try, but Carter's attempt at goal dropped short. Porirua 6, Otaki nil. After Connor had put in neat side-line kicking, Ramsbotham forced his way towards.the Porirua line and; by -fendlng off several players, enabled' Otaki to attack. Nice passing by both sides followed, and Wallace evaded the opposition to score for - the hoihe .side, Taratoa • failed to convert. Porirua 6, Otaki 3. A five-yard scrum in the home territory saw Otaki hard pressed. In the second spe'l Taylor i (Otaki) had a piace at gqal, but I failed to add: ,£>oints while Taratoa , ! had two unsuccessful! shots"; lNfehu | made a fine ruh aird was going well I when he p'assed- to a disadvantage. , Give and take play followed. Almost 1 on the call of time, Swairison scored a try for Porirua. Parata failed at goal, an.d the jgame e.nded Porirua : 12, Otaki-Rahui 3. Mr. Les. Smith was referee! Elkinson was 0tbe pick of the ..visiting backs,.and was given good ,!support. The '! forwards proved a I hard-working combination, and as 4 they are to be strengthened by two , I or three players unable to make the jtrip may do well in -the competir tions which open at Wellington on : j Saturday next. :j • Connor, full-back for the home : j team, put in useful line-kicking . and frequently got his side out of ! ! difficulties. Wallace, who recently [ ■joined the ranks of the home club, j played a sound game and his try . J was well-deserved.
