There was no" pogsibility that British troops wotild rernain in Palestlne after August 1 said the British Colonial Secretary (Mr. Arthur Creech Jones) on his arrival in New York tpday to attend the tJnited NatiOns sittings on Palestille. .He told reporters ; "I hope they will be out before the 1st. Make it qitite clear— -we aren 't staying om . We hav.e had enough. " The Jewish Ageney's political • officer (Mr. Moshe Shertok) told the Seenrity Council today that the Agency Would not aeeept the; Palestine tritee if it interf ered i with Jewish plans to establish an autonomous government on May 16. Consequently he demanded amendments to the elause in the Big Five's dtaft resolution calling a bait to political activfty ' in Palestine. He also insisted on a provision . for the immediate expulsion of all Arab armed bands from other countries. Mr. Shertok objeeted to the proposal that the execution- of the truee be entru'sted to Britain and opposed a ban on immigration. Tbe Arab Higher Comtnittee for Palestine did not eommit jtself, but the Ar-ab spokesman on the Council said ko would aeeept the truee plan with some. ironelad eonditions.
