There was no" pogsibility that British troops wotild rernain in Palestlne after August 1 said the British Colonial Secretary (Mr. Arthur Creech Jones) on his arrival in New York tpday to attend the tJnited NatiOns sittings on Palestille. .He told reporters ; "I hope they will be out before the 1st. Make it qitite clear— -we aren 't staying om . We hav.e had enough. " The Jewish Ageney's political • officer (Mr. Moshe Shertok) told the Seenrity Council today that the Agency Would not aeeept the; Palestine tritee if it interf ered i with Jewish plans to establish an autonomous government on May 16. Consequently he demanded amendments to the elause in the Big Five's dtaft resolution calling a bait to political activfty ' in Palestine. He also insisted on a provision . for the immediate expulsion of all Arab armed bands from other countries. Mr. Shertok objeeted to the proposal that the execution- of the truee be entru'sted to Britain and opposed a ban on immigration. Tbe Arab Higher Comtnittee for Palestine did not eommit jtself, but the Ar-ab spokesman on the Council said ko would aeeept the truee plan with some. ironelad eonditions. The Couneil finally adjourned uriti! tomorow night after Mr Oromyko deelared he had not received instruetions on how to vote on the nroposal.
