RUGBY ADMINISTRATION

Teams Nominated For Year's Competitions There are no changes in the new season's senior rugby teams announced by the Horowhenua Rugby Union's management committee last night. They are, as last year, Foxton, Shannon, Athletic, Wanderers, Hui Mai and Otaki-, Rahui. . ; ' . Though the position of Foxton is still uncertain, it'will meanwhile be regarded as in Horpwhenua. It was stated by the treasurer, Mr. F. G. Carrington that its afflliation' fee for the year had been received. There will be ,12 '* junior teams, seven or eight third grade teams and six fourths. The lower gra'dings are:— Foxton, a junior .third and fourth grade; Shannon,' a junior, third and fourth grade; Tokomaru, a junior; Athletic; a junior and third grade; Wanderers', a junior; Old Boys,' one and, possibly two third grades; College, a third and two fourth grades; Hui Mai, a junior and third grade; Otaki, a junior and fourth grade; Rahui, a junior, third and fourth grade; Waikanae," a junior; Paraparaumu, a junior; Punahau, a junior; and Awahau*,' a junior. This season's senior representative selectors will be Messrs. R. ,Sands, J. Sciascia; and D. Oliver, and the juniot Selectors Messrs. J. Bond and T. George. Mr. F. G. Carrington was appointed to the fixtures committee. • - Writing to the committee, the Shannon Club asked that consideration be given to the holding of a senior B grade competition. The establishment of a senior B ;grade would relieve the position in the jimior grade and absorb surplus senior players, stated the letter. It was also suggested that- the winner of the senior B competition be promoted to senior A status the following seasoii, and the team at tlie bottom of the . senior A competition be relegated to senior B. This was a matter which would have to be put before the teams, said the president, Mr. A.. Gillespie, and he suggested that it be held over for consideration at the next annual general meeting. The allocation of Levin grounds for maintenance purposes was decided as follows:— Athletic, Rugby Park No. 1 ; Wanderers, Rugby Park No. 2 ground; Levin Domain, to be the responsibllity of the union. In respcnse to an appeal by the committee, the names of four meri from ptaki willing ,to act as referees were haiYded to the Secretary for forwarding to the Referees' Associatidn. Th'e'y were Messrs. M. Johnson, L. Barratt, R. Henderson and T. Henry. The Shannon delegate also gave Mr.'G. Woods' name as a future referee. Mr. F. G. Carrington said the association would welcome the'se additions, but that the, position would still be difficult.*li,The association, might not be able to covcr all the games. ~ • ' 'A It was further decided, that the senior -' and jurh'bf1 competition games would start on Saturday,April 24, and the third and fourth grades a week lateh If only one game was being played on a field, play would commence at 2 p.m. . A suggestion that a 'junior Maori-Pakeha repi;esentative game be played as a curtain raiser to the senior Maori-Pakeha game on June 7 was forthcoming from Mr. N. H. Kingi, Punahau. . , Such a game would foster football between the two races, and he had already spoken to some of the business people who would be willing to contribute a cup- or shield. Permission to carry on with- the plan was given by the committee, providing that the soliciting of donations for the trophy was not done in the union's name. The committee otherwise thought that the suggestion of such a game was very laudable._ _• •
