N.Z. Communists Challenge Mr. Semple
W ' WELLINGTON, April 13. An announcement was made in Wellington today, on behaff of the Communist Party nationa>l executive, which met yesterday afternOon iii Auckland, that the organ-, isation challenged the Minister of Works, Mr. Semple, in respect of his campaign "Why I fight against Communism." The Communist exeeutive said it would place £250 in a trust aecount and give the amount to the New Zealand Crippled Children's Society if Mr. Semple could prove that : the Communist Party in New Zeatand receiVed instructions -from a foreign country, or wished to desxrcy democraCy in New Zealand by . violence. The Communists were prepared to allow ad'judication by eminent members of the legal .profession, or by Supreme Court JudgSs, aird Mr. Semple was challenged to debate publicly with the organisation anywhere in New Zealand. The challenge has arisen from Mr. Semple's statements at public ! meetings at Mangakino and : Christchurch.
