Gounoil l&si night declined to alter its previous decision to deman'd from the Horowhenua RUgby Union 20 per cent. of the gross gate takings at Foxton, instead of 10 per cent., which has been the usual allowance made to lOcal bodies in the district by the union. It was replying to a deputation from the union comprising Messrs. A. Giliespie (chairman of the management committee) , _F. G. Carrington and J. E. Fullarton.1 The financial position of the ■union was stressed by Mr. Giliespie iti his opening remarks. The union had had a bad year an'd was down £117, he Said. At present it Could not allo-W for any increase in the perCentage of gate "takings to local bodies. Both Otaki and Shannon grounds had better wet weather" facilities than the Foxton ground,. and Shannon had raised money by public SUbscriptions to carry out ground improvements. Neither of these two local bodies had sought an increase this year.
