PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR MR. SEMPLE.
(.'III1LSTCHUPCH, April 11. The follo wing resolntion was carried with ouly two dissentients, when tlie Miuister of Works, Mr. Semple, addressed a crowded Btate theatre this evening. "This public moeting. atter heanng an address by Mr. BempJc, is satisfied that the Conimunisls present a serious inenace to thc country iu that they owe 110 :ilh'giance to the Brilish Commonwealthytake their instruetions trom a foreign Powef, and, being sworu oppouents of our way of life, will tio every thing in their power to suiash democraev and establisli a dietatorship or |iroletariat by the use of force and the (bseiif rauehisement of all those who disagree with tliem, such as reeentlv h:tj>])eued 111 Czechoslo vakia and other 1 .Enropean countries. This meeting pledges its support to the Government in witnlever steps it niav deem necessarv to ensurc that this danger in our niidst is kept- in eheck. " There were several interjections early in the meetiug bnt were not continued. Mr. P. M. Macfarlane, 1VLP. presided. Xir. Semple dealt witli^ reoent events in New Zealand, Queensland, and F.urope in an address entitled " Whv 1 Fight Couumniism. " TTe described Comniunism as public eneniy No. 1 and paid the Conununists were dupes of a foreign Fower and were out to destroy the Labour Party. The sooner tne trades unions got rid of the Communists the better. " Ninety-eight per eent. of the public of this country are with nie in this (iglit." sfated" Jdr. Semple.
