Discussion On Educational Subjects

The monthly meeting of the Otaki Home and School Association took the form of a discussion evening, when a very good atten'dance was presided over by Mr. A. G. Kirkwood, deputising for Mr. R. Bills, who was unavoidably absent. The chairman welcomed several new members and wished thc-m a happy time with the association. He said it was pleasing to see so many present, and urged each member to bring someone else -to the next meeting, which was to be held on May 6. J That the form of the evening was popular with those who were present was.evidenced by the enthusiastic manner in which most of thepi participated in the ensuing discussions. Although at times there was a touch of humour in the remarks, the friendliness and frankness of the discussions showed that both teachers an-J parents are awake to the wejfare of their pupils and children. The topics dealt with were, "Should Five-year-Olds be accepted as pupils in the school?" "Which is the better, to make ' additions to the present school, or seek another site and build a new school," "What are the opinions of the meeting regardina home-work," and "Are the school baths to be proceeded with?" • It was decided to make an effort to raise funds for the purchase of a sound-film projector, it being left-jto the next meeting to go more fully into the- matter. ' A delightful supper was serve'd at the close of the meeting.
