The Late Mr. Charlie Aplin
i -•• — After a lengthy psriod of indifferent health, there passed away at Levin recently one of the early pioneers of Wellington, Mr. Charlie Apiin. Born at Tinakori Road, Wellingicn, in 1867, Mr. Aplin was a son of i the late Mr. Christa"pher .Aplin. He ! attsnded the Kaiwarra School and as a young man took up work on the Onslow Borough Council. In 1903 he commenced farming at ' Crofton, now Ngaio, part of this property lsder being purchased by the Railway Department and today it is the-' railway settlement. In 1916 ivtr, Aplin moved to Manakau and spent two dnd a-half years there, bu£ . owing to ill health was f or c ed'to ■ g iv e. . e^tvy work.. He returned vto Ngaio/' fpehdihg ' fouf and, a-half years there in retirement, but his love for the land took him to Te Rehunga, Dannevirke, where he purchased land which he farmed for 14 years. Health reasons again caused him to r.elinquish his property and he moved to Levin in 1938, residing there ever since with his youngest son, Hector. The late Mr. Aplin leaves a widow and family of flve sons and three 'daughters. One daughter predeceased him 12 months ago. There are also 36 grandchildren and one great-grandchlld.
