First Rugby Of Season In Otaki.
The first game of the Rugby season was played in Otaki on Saturday, when two teams from Petone played Otaki fifteens. Enjoyable games, with patches of good play, resulted, and it is evident by the forrn shown that the game in this district will be an improvement on last season. The local club has a fine management committee and under its attention the visitors on Saturday thoroughly enjoyed their outing. They were entertaine'd at.luncheon and, before leaving, at • a smoke concert, when a pleasant time was spent. The visitors were grateful for the hospitality extended. Messrs. L. Smith and M. Johnson were the referees. The first match wa s won by Otaki by five points to nil, but the second went in favour of Petone by 21 to nil. This was a fourth gra'de match but, nevertheless, the lads showed good form.
