Persona!! . , . Mr. and Mrs. S..W. Barber, of Moutoa, and Siater MacDonald, the local district nurse, left yesterday morning on a holiday to Picton. Heavy Winds On Thursday. night Shannon experienced heavy winds. Although no actual damage was reported, the Wind made it very uncomfortable for those whose duties took'them out of doors. "Gusts up to 55 m'.p.h. were recorded at the local railway station on" Thursday evening. Preparing for Golf Although it will be a few weeks yet before the qfficial opening of the Buckley Golf Club, many members are having a practice hit on the links. It is reported that conditions are very ,good in spite of the fact that the greens and faitways have been untouched since last season. Messrs. C. and H. Stern have prepared one or /two greens and the newly-appointed greenkeeper will be on the job in the near future: • It is expected that the links will be in good condition for opening day. Summer Sports Closing • With the approach . of cooler weather, the thoughts' of sports men and women are turning towards winter activities, and the attendance at places of summer sport is commencing to diminish. The official closing and presentation of trophies won on the tennis courts will be held by the Shannon Tennis Club next Saturday. The croquet club has already endad its season and the bowling club will be closing within the next week or two. The maj ority of cricketers have turned towards football. It is hoped that local' players will enjoy ideal v/eather, and will have much success in the winter sport of their choice.
