A REPORT issued by the East Norfolk Rivers' Catchment Board recently stated that the small town of Caister, Norfolk, J England, with a population of 2,500 people, may disappear under the sea if the present rate of soil erosion along ^the | coast continues. j

Germany It is reported from a reliable source in Germany that wholesale kidnapping of German boys and girls is being carried out in the iRussian zone. In one town alone, 2000 youths have been kidnapped with many more wanishing daily. This information has been handed to the Allied Control Council in Berlin. * * -K Russia The American Navy is worried about Russia's growing submarine fleet. The Soviet has 200 so far and the number is increasing at a fast rate. Some of the new types are reported to have a speed of 20 miles an hour, and are equipped with many new deviees which may make them more formldable than those of America. * * * Rumania Rumania is not the most comfortable place for Rumanians to travel in. It is not so comfortable for strangers either. A British visitor, returned to London, told of infrequent services. When trains did arrive, they were slow and ov.ercrowded to the point of suffocation. The journey across Rumania might last three days, and for those unable to afford a compartment seat there was the choice of standing up in cattle trucks or riding on carriage roofs. -K * * Norway After nearly a century during which two official languages have oeeh recognised, Norway is fiow struggling to amalgamate them into one. One language is DanoNorwegian, a heritage from the 100-year period when Norway and

Denmark were united, and the j other is a compila.tion of originai I Norwegian dialects formed into a j single language. The first is mainly j used in the cities and the south, j and. the second is mostly used by | rural dwellers in central and north- j ern Norway. ! * -K * - Singapore " j There is only one Russian citizeh ! in 'Singapore, and his name is I Nicoiao Plakin, the Russian trade j representative. Mr. Plakin has L^en making rubber purc'hases in ] Malaya, and, according to reports from Chinese rubber circles, he has been a canny and carefiil buyer. He wants to stay on, but ' the locai government have so far refused to renew his vlsa. * * * Holland Being one of the worst to suffer during the*present war, the Nether-. iands is now striving to recover. Although extreme food rations prevail this has not affected the increase in population which last year was 100>000.
